Our solar roof vents and solar exhaust fans rely on RAF (Real Air Flow), a measurement system that determines the actual airflow capacity of a roof ventilator. Many roof whirlybirds and roof ventilators only state their Theoretical Capacity (TC), such as a standard roof whirlybird providing near to 100m³/h under optimal conditions. We test our solar roof vents with all the components attached, not just the power of the solar roof vent itself.

Our recommendations for ventilating standard-pitched homes are based on 10 years of experience in the Australian roof ventilation market. Many of our competitors recommend less capacity. Theoretically, these lower airflow capacity requirements are correct but don’t actually result in the desired outcome – because of severe restrictions for the necessary replacement air.

At GES we carry out our own testing, whilst it appears that our competitors rely on the manufacturers’ specifications. We would encourage anyone considering a competitor to ask them about the test procedure to verify the airflow.

Day-Night Controller Night Operations Kit

The N-OPS kit (Also known as the Constant Current Module) is a useful addition that allows a Solar Whiz installation to be run during low-light hours such as heavily overcast days, or night-time. This enables your Solar Whiz to run on mains electricity once the solar charge has depleted.

Solar Whiz has an entire range of accessories and components that help you to enhance and personalise your roof ventilation system. We encourage you to read for further information!

With 25% to 35% of heat leaking into your home through your ceiling, it’s important to take roof ventilation seriously. Temperatures on your roof easily reach as high as 70°C in Summer. This heat doesn’t go anywhere if you can’t extract it!

On top of heat management, Solar Whiz assists with:

  1. Moisture extraction
  2. Mould and fungi prevention
  3. Improve Air conditioner efficiency
  4. Exhaust control for steam or smoke
  5. Fumes Extraction

Solar Whiz achieves optimal ventilation by pulling in cooler outdoor air through your roof space. The animation on the left illustrates a typical roof ventilation arrangement, where a Solar Whiz roof ventilator draws replacement air through eave vents.

This process effectively refreshes the roof space and helps reduce heat buildup.

Solar Whiz efficiently extracts heat from rooms through ceiling vents. The animation on the left demonstrates how a Solar Whiz roof ventilator draws replacement air from rooms via ceiling vents, ensuring effective roof space ventilation and heat extraction.

Ceiling vents are particularly beneficial for double-storey homes, especially in upstairs rooms prone to heat buildup and limited fresh outside air. With no need for tubing or complex installation, heat extraction via interior vents is straightforward.

Utilising a solar exhaust fan ensures upstairs rooms remain comfortable and cool on hot days, enhancing year-round enjoyment of these spaces.

An alternate method for Solar Whiz to facilitate ventilation is by actively channeling hot air through your roof via ducting. The animation on the left demonstrates the extraction of heat with a Solar Whiz heat extractor/solar vent, effectively removing hot air directly from rooms through ceiling vents.

This process not only contributes to energy-efficient home cooling but also aids in home ventilation, playing a role in preventing mould growth.
