Solar Whiz Commercial Ventilation
Solve your heat and fume extraction problems with Solar Whiz Commercial: the benchmark in providing cost-effective commercial ventilation and extraction.
WHY SHOULD YOU GET AN EXTRACTION FAN?
What Is Commercial Solar Whiz ?
The Solar Whiz commercial ventilation system offers industry-leading air extraction and industrial ventilation. Our commercial ventilation system extracts hot, stale air from inside your warehouse or industrial space, and replaces it with cooler, drier ambient air from outside. The result is lower indoor temperatures and a far more comfortable working environment.
Solar Whiz Commercial solar powered fans offers the SW-AU-C-155, capable of extracting up to 10,000m³/h of air.
If you’re serious about keeping your business cool, Solar Whiz can help you achieve your cooling needs.
When heat gathers in your commercial or industrial property, it quickly becomes uncomfortable.
Commercial and industrial buildings are particularly affected by the intense Australian summer heat and sun. Warehouses, workshops and factories are just some examples. Poor air quality and ventilation as well as uncomfortably hot temperatures create an unhealthy work environment that could be a serious risk to workers.
A Solar Whiz industrial ventilator system is a vastly more effective method of achieving proper heat extraction and ventilation. Traditional commercial-grade whirlybirds are only capable of moving around 100 m³/h (cubic metres of air per hour).
A small amount of mathematics demonstrates that a ridiculous amount of whirlybird units is required in order to achieve a satisfactory level of airflow. In terms of industrial ventilation, a whirlybird isn’t an effective solution.
“The Solar Whiz system has kept the overall fumes down in our workplace […] We often have up to 4 welders in the workshop on a normal day, and our existing three-phase fan wasn’t extracting enough of the fumes in the workshop.
3 Solar Whiz fans keep the fumes out of our workshop on your standard workday. The team at Solar Whiz set the system up in a day, and did a great job without getting in the way of the team.”

How does solar-powered ventilation work for commercial buildings?
Solar Whiz commercial ventilation fans are powered entirely by a dedicated solar panel mounted on your roof. As the sun shines, the fan actively extracts hot, stale air from inside your building and replaces it with cooler ambient air drawn in from ground-level openings — no electricity required, no running costs.
Does commercial solar ventilation work on cloudy days or at night?
Yes. Solar Whiz units operate whenever sufficient daylight is available — including overcast days. For facilities that need ventilation after dark, an optional Night Operations Kit allows the system to run on mains power overnight, ensuring continuous airflow around the clock without compromising the solar-first design.
How many solar ventilators do I need for my warehouse or factory?
The number of units depends on your building’s volume and the recommended air changes per hour for your industry. As a guide, multiply your building’s cubic metres by the required air change rate, then divide by 10,000 — the extraction capacity of one SW-AU-C-155. Our team can calculate this for you.
What's the difference between Solar Whiz and a commercial whirlybird?
A standard commercial whirlybird moves around 100m³ of air per hour and only operates when wind is blowing. The Solar Whiz SW-AU-C-155 moves up to 10,000m³ per hour — 100 times more — powered by sunlight rather than wind, delivering reliable extraction on hot, still days when you need it most.
How long do Solar Whiz commercial units last, and do they need maintenance?
Solar Whiz commercial units are designed and manufactured in Melbourne for Australian conditions, using stainless steel components and double-shielded ball bearings. They require minimal maintenance and are backed by a 10-year warranty on the PV panel. Periodic visual inspections are recommended but no ongoing servicing is required
Benefits of Solar Whiz Industrial Ventilator System
Fume Extraction
- Expels fume or exhaust build-up, useful for fabrication or automotive industries.
Fume extraction is essential. Without it, airborne contaminants will build up inside a workspace or rise overhead. Left untreated, the particulate count can rise to unsafe levels and jeopardise the health of workers. There is plenty of documentation on exposure standards to make sure workers and employers understand the risks.
Heat Extraction
- Actively flushes out hot air in industrial spaces with cooler replacement outdoor air,
Moisture Extraction
- Moisture or condensation build-up is actively cycled with replacement air, minimising potential
🏗️ Installation and Suitability
Can commercial solar ventilation be installed on any roof type?
Solar Whiz commercial units are compatible with most commercial roof types, including corrugated metal, Colorbond, concrete, and flat roofs. The flashing kit is designed to create a weatherproof seal on the most common commercial roof profiles. Contact our team if you have a non-standard roof and we’ll advise the best approach.
What types of commercial buildings are best suited to solar ventilation?
Solar Whiz commercial ventilation suits any large space with significant heat, fume, or moisture build-up. This includes warehouses, factories, workshops, schools, aged care facilities, community halls, sports centres, automotive workshops, and agricultural sheds — essentially any commercial or industrial building where temperature and air quality affect comfort, safety, or productivity.
Is solar ventilation suitable for large commercial spaces like warehouses or factories?
Yes — Solar Whiz is purpose-built for large commercial and industrial spaces. The SW-AU-C-155 extracts up to 10,000m³ of air per hour, and multiple units can be installed across a single roof to meet the ventilation requirements of even the largest warehouses, factories, and industrial facilities across Australia.
Does commercial solar ventilation work with existing air conditioning systems?
Absolutely. Solar Whiz commercial ventilation works alongside existing air conditioning by removing the hot air that builds up in roof spaces and around ductwork. This reduces the load on your AC system, improving its efficiency and lowering energy consumption — making your overall cooling setup significantly more cost-effective.
How long does installation take for commercial solar ventilation?
Installation time ranges from a few hours for a single unit to several days for larger facilities requiring multiple units — depending on building size and roof type. Since standard solar-only installations require no electrical wiring, the process is straightforward and minimally disruptive to your daily business operations.
Do I need a licensed installer or electrician for commercial solar ventilation?
Solar Whiz commercial units are designed to be DIY-friendly and do not require electrical wiring for standard solar-only operation. However, for larger installations or if you’re adding the optional Night Operations Kit (mains power), a licensed electrician is recommended. Solar Whiz has a nationwide dealer and installer network if you’d prefer professional installation.
🌿 Benefits and Compliance
How much can Solar Whiz commercial ventilation reduce my energy bills?
By actively removing heat from roof spaces and around HVAC ductwork, Solar Whiz reduces the workload on your air conditioning system — which typically accounts for a significant portion of commercial energy bills. Many businesses report noticeable reductions in cooling costs, with the system itself running at zero electricity cost.
Does solar ventilation improve air quality and reduce mould in commercial buildings?
Yes. Solar Whiz continuously cycles fresh air through your building, expelling airborne contaminants, humidity, fumes, and stale air. This active airflow prevents the moisture build-up that leads to mould and condensation, while also reducing the concentration of dust, VOCs, and exhaust fumes in workshops and industrial environments.
Does Solar Whiz comply with Australian building codes (NCC / AS 1668.2)?
Solar Whiz commercial ventilation systems support compliance with the National Construction Code (NCC) and AS 1668.2, which sets minimum mechanical ventilation requirements for commercial buildings in Australia. We recommend consulting with your builder or certifier to confirm the number of units required to meet the specific ventilation rates for your building type and use.
Can solar ventilation replace smoke release vents in commercial buildings?
In some configurations, yes. Certain Solar Whiz commercial installations can perform dual functions — providing day-to-day ventilation while also acting as a smoke exhaust pathway in the event of fire. This can eliminate the need for costly pneumatic smoke release vents. Speak with our commercial team to confirm suitability for your specific building.
Does solar ventilation help meet workplace health and safety (WH&S) requirements?
Yes. Adequate ventilation is a key requirement under Australian WH&S legislation, particularly in workplaces with heat stress risks, airborne fumes, or dust. Solar Whiz actively extracts hazardous air and maintains safe temperature levels, helping employers meet their duty of care obligations — as demonstrated in installations across welding workshops, factories, and aged care facilities.
Can Solar Whiz help reduce a building's carbon footprint or improve its Green Star rating?
Yes. Because Solar Whiz runs on solar energy with zero grid electricity consumption, it directly reduces a building’s operational carbon footprint. For commercial buildings pursuing Green Star certification or sustainability commitments, solar-powered ventilation demonstrates measurable energy efficiency improvements and reduced reliance on fossil-fuel-powered HVAC systems.
